Bullshit.
Someone has twiddled the vari-cap on the output tuning because when it was set on the assembly bench they put the red/brown paint on the screw so it will not move.
It is also a good way to see if someone has twiddled it.
I would suspect that the input tune has also been twiddled because of the scratches on the screw.
It not a horrible built, but the wood screws??
To lazy to tap threads in the heat sink maybe?

San Diego ca, that is where a lot of these small 2 transistor amps came from back in the day.

Someone played with it because the transistors aren't original, and also the amplifier was built in Fullerton, CA.
