I'm familiar with the main players.

Just wondering if there are any other obscure alternative headset mics out there that work good. Looking for something different to try on my Kenwood and ICOM HF rigs.

No Heil, W2ENY or MFJ crap wanted.

My biggest complaints with Heil are the big ass honker connectors they use that add weight and pull down on the headset.

Are you running any outboard eq stuff, like W2IHY? I have heard of guys getting really good results using simple computer headsets (which are very lightweight), and using the EQ to get the sound levels where they need to be.

really? , I never noticed the weight issue , my PRO set ELTE has small mini connectors on the headset itself,....

it does use an AD-1 connector/footswitch jack, but that is right at the radio connector and its weight is supported by the radio desk table.

I used/had the Traveler. Heil is overrated anyhow.

The traveler has a short cord that's about 18" long. When it's hooked to the rest of the cable the big ass honkery connector hangs down and gets in the way. Their excuse was that they don't want people tripping over it. I'm like.. Whaaaa.

Anyhow, it's a damn nuisance.

yeah, I came across a traveler a few years ago, it did work as advertised, but,.... I gave it away free;).

I like the PRO ELETE head set,.. nice ear cushions,

I mostly use it for field day to cut out the background noise.

Not running any outboard stuff. Only want a simple headset with a PTT switch.

Ok, that rules that out. There is a computer based free EQ setup that I found on eham once.... RoMac Software. It works through your soundcard. Might be fun if you wanted to play with it in the shack and try a cheapo headset with it.

Also, I would have sworn that H and Y had a new Wilson product that was a noise cancelling headset. Can't seem to find it on their site anymore, though.
