I still think about them occasionally, especially on Friday or Saturday nights, and will tune around in their area. Was around 8pm eastern last night and nothing else was going on much that I was looking for, 10 meters had about closed down by then although there was still some pretty strong DX on 11 meters .... funny how that works - so I looked around and found a pirate with a pretty good signal on 6955 USB. Was > Radio Free Whatever. Dude going by " DJ Dick Weed" playing some rock tunes along with some DJ banter in between and a few decently produced station jingles. Better than nothing. Went to the main SW pirate reporting website last night, where there are only 4 or 5 guys left doing any web reporting, and no one had posted it. 1 fellow did report the station sometime overnight.
I remember listening to some really great shit back in the mid 90's and early 2000's. Very many pirates and as many as possibly 100 regular reporters, Domestic + International. Some of the pirates were damn good obviously going to a lot of time and trouble to produce some fantastic original comedy sketches etc .... that you wouldn't hear anywhere else. That scene seemed to fade away after the early 2000's and all that seems to remain is a small handful of various occasional stations that mostly play only music .... which I find to be boring but that's just me. If you're interested in listening out, the best times to catch one is Fri-Sat nights and they are currently mostly operating right below 40 Meters and between 6925 and 6975khz in USB and AM modes. The long running SW Pirate news and info website is www.frn. net
