The past several years have seen lobster prices paid to the fisherman drop considerably. This has meant the price paid dockside for live lobster is around $3.24- $3.50/lb. up here. The large stores are selling it for around $8-9/lb. but I did see it at $5.99/lb. the other day. I do remember seeing it at $12.99/lb. several years ago. Because of this low dockside price a lot of fishermen have taken to setting up roadside sales and are selling it for $5.00/lb. for live lobster. This has lead to a lot more people buying it than would normally do so and I for one am one of those people. The past several years we have indulged in the delectable little sea creatures a couple times a year around the Christmas/New Years' holiday season.Today we cooked up the 12 lb. I bought yesterday. This got me thinking about lobster prices in other parts of the country/world. I have seen lots of news items about shipping lobster overseas but nothing about the prices. It also seems that not all lobsters are created equal, at least not as far as what is served up anyway. I have learned that a lot of lobsters served on the west coast do not have the large claws as the North Atlantic lobsters do and some areas even classify crayfish (crawfish) as lobsters. Anyway I was wondering how many folks out there like lobster and what kind is served/sold in your area. The large clawed type or otherwise and also what is the going price in the stores or local if you live in an area that has lobster fleets delivering fresh local product. No real reason for asking other than to satisfy a curiosity.

We have domestic lobsters ie mudbugs but it takes too damn many to make it worth while.

Cheaper to eat lobster here than beef.

I don't eat them, they don't eat me. We arrived at this mutually satisfactory agreement something like 60 years ago.

When "Surf and Turf" dinners caught on back in the late 1950s, my mom and I would walk from our house seven blocks to Fremont Street and the El Cortez Restaurant (one of the very oldest restaurants in Las Vegas). She had two lobsters and I had two steaks. Talk about win-win!

I love em! Cooked up a couple 2 pounders yesterday. I paid $9.99 lb for the critters which were live.

I lived in VA for 5 years and still miss the fresh seafood....especially soft shell crab.

love lobster CK

last time i had them was about 3 years ago when the (now ex)-wife and i stayed just outside Dartmouth for a vacation...weird thing, the folks we stayed with didn't have a clue how to cook them lol

then i think we paid around $6/lb. Not sure what they go for up this way, but they do have live in a couple of the grocery stores. I think they have to be killed tho before they leave the store. My uncle's GF is from NS and whenever she can get down that way she tries to fly a crate back on the return

I've gone hoop net fishing here for them several times. The type we have off the coast of SoCal are California Spiny. Catching your own at night and eating them fresh the next day is the way to do it!
