it's an extremely lossy base loaded 1/4 wave antenna.

its a 1/2 wave. they call it the "Rod of God"

and just exactly what makes it a 1/2 wavelength in operation? what's the overall length of the radiator? and since the input impedance at the end of a 1/2 wave antenna is on the order of several thousand ohms then where's the matching network at the feedpoint required to match the high impedance to 50 ohm feedline?

i believe its around 13 feet long with another 4 feet in the coil.
ive never seen one in person.

That's the Davemade Rod of God.

It's a half wave end fed vertical. It uses a huge coil to handle the power of the BIG ac boxes dave himself used to build... And has a vacuum cap to tune it to resonance.

It is THE mobile antenna to have, hard to come by, and banned in most all but sky competitions (some sky competitions even banned the rod of god).

Audi, inventor of Quattro (although, they can only lay claim to the inventor of the name, AWD was around LONG before they named it something cute), owner of VW, and a great car company.

They just beat the 24 hours of Le Mans. With a Diesel powered car......

VW owns Audi not the other way around. Those deisels are overtaking nearly everyting in the whole Le Mans series. The diesels are currently allowed 1/2 liter more displacement, I wonder if that will change when they keep winning.
