Good Evening Gentlemen

Is it possible to turn down the SSB power enough on the Anytone 6666 to run a two pill amp with out smoking the amp. Both of the amps are older Palomar's. One is a Palomar TX-150B and the other is a Palomar 200A. Thank you in advance for your replies. Have a great evening.

Is it possible? Probably. Is it worth it or wise? I doubt it. 1 driving 1 driving 2 is going to swing too much for a 2 pill, unless you want to do a bunch of stuff inside the radio, for what I believe, would be a small gain in the long run.

Yes SSB is easy to turn down on the quad 6. I can run at 12 watts true peak very easily by adjusting the variable power.

Snippits75 I appreciate your reply. I was concerned that even with the power turned down it would swing to much for the 2 pills. Have a great day.

Yes. While the benefit is not great, I know many people that run even smaller amps - like the KL203 - with the quad 6. The one benefit is that they can run the radio on a very low power setting so the radio doesn’t get hot. Some amps won’t sound very good so you’ll have to find out about that but, running the radio cooler helps. When that radio heats up alit, it’ll drop in frequency a fair amount.

Note: Not a big kl203 fan with the Anytone. I was just making the remark as a matter of fact. Cheers.

What ever power you dial it in to on SSB is where it will stay. AM works different, but you will be good to go on SSB no problem.
Good Afternoon snippits75. I appreciate your reply. I heard several people in DX land this past weekend talking on the Anytone Quad 6 and they all sounded good. The radio may be enough by itself, but I just wanted to explore my options. I am using a dipole in an inverted V configuration mounted in my attic. I have antenna restrictions because of the HOA. Thanks again and have a great evening.

Good Afternoon CbRadiosPRONTO. Thank you for your reply. The Anytone Quad 6's I have heard all sounded good. Just wanted to know what my options might be since I have antenna restrictions and am using a dipole in an inverted V configuration mounted in the attic. Thanks again for your reply and have a nice evening.

I wouldn't run a 40-60 watt radio into a 100 watt amp. That's just foolish. Don't care if you low drive it or not.

Why not find an amp to match the radio? I never understood why some want to run those small amps with a dual final radio. It boggles the mind.
Good Afternoon RT431. Thank you for your advice. I am just seeking information from people more knowledgeable than myself regarding this type of setup.

Not a Q6, but both my Q5n and Q5n2 work with my 203P and 300P amps just fine. I run both radios at 10-12 watts peak, and everything is happy. Why do I run amps with these radios? Because I can't get 150 and 180 watts out of the radios.
