ANYTONE 6666

I've been running the AT-6666 in the mobile for over a month. It is noiser than the CRE 8900, Lincoln II, or Maxlog M8800 v8 but I find managable as long as I'm not trying to hear a super quiet dx station.

My main issue is still with the overall volume. It has a scale to 36 and I have to run the volume at 28 when on the freeway even with the external speaker.

Aside from some noise and the volume level I don't have any other complaints. It's been great for SSB stability, stations say the audio is good with just the stock mike, output is solid 50 watts out of the box and I haven't touched a thing.

Most of all it's just easy to use in the mobile. By far one of the easiest radios to use when driving because of the simple layout and large knob.

one other thing to note - memory function on mine doesn't save mode, don't know if they've fixed that yet.

No issues with volume level on mine, so they must've addressed that. My AT-6666 is noisier than my other mobile options. When unkeying the mic, there is a second or so, that I get a loud rush of correlated noise. Then it appears the NB kicks in and tackles it, not all, but most. My 257 performs better in overall noise.

So far, as a base unit, I'm happy. Haven't messed with memory options yet. The software issue is moot, as I really don't think I'll ever use it anyways. It's not a big enough deal for me to break a sweat figuring the driver issue out, I just don't care.

I do like it and haven't found enough to declare it a turd, just yet. Maybe the NB just needs adjusted??? I really like the size, the mounting bracket is top notch. I'd like to see this chassis style continue with upgrades. 12 meters would be nice. Small internal tuner would be awesome.

software

So far I have been unable to get the soft ware to work either.
Can run the program and then install the driver from the program..but the driver is not installing correctly. Win 8.1 doesn't work at all with the driver and usually Win 7 was fine. I think the lead I have is wrong and will see if I can use the internal one if there is..Most if not all the functions are off the menu..there are 3 of them..only changing the frequencies needs the program but I was able to get the 27.470 to 27.665 into Band A with 5khz steps.
If you are going to stay on the 10m or the std 40 nothing needs doing...but I like the freeband in 5khz steps.

Nope, no Ford (no fuel pump whine). It's was tried in a 2005 Dodge Neon, which happens to be a very quiet vehicle, RF noise wise. Out of all the different mobiles I've tried in this car, the AT-6666 is the worse.

Put several hours on the AT-6666 tonight. Moderate to strong SSB stations are distorted. Pretty much on par with the early Lincoln II Turd.

My advice to anyone interested in this and other impending export releases, is to be patient and wait for real world user reviews. Many vendors have units they will need to unload. Wait for user reviews, avoid reviews from vendors, giddy bloggers and YouTube stars that have a vested interest.

Could be MY particular UNIT, but I doubt it.

Another worthless export huh?

It's another radio that has potential, but fails.

Just a few things...

>SSB receive distortion

>Impotent NB

>Barely touch the RF gain pot and it maxes out

>Only 6 memory channels (come on! Really?)

>Mode not saved in memory

>Programming software failure out of the box

Just a few things I've noticed. I'm sure I could find more.

The only thing worth buying at the moment is an Optima. The Lincoln II might be OK when version 64 hits the street. I bet the Maxlog will have issues as well. I'd avoid anything from Anytone. Maybe Sam will bring something better. I hope so. I've spent big $$$ on these horseshit exports.

Sorry to hear that duster but good to know! Hopefully the maxlog 8900 will be better. Will wait and see.

dang,, I really like the looks of the anytone at-5555N, have to wait and see on that one. did you see the board pics of the maxlog m8900 compared to the at-6666, the m8900 looks like it only has about 1/3 the parts of the at-6666

so far i have kept myself talked out of buying any of these new radios, I don't know why I think any of these new radios are going to be so much better than what I already have,,lol. but we keep trying them. ill stick to my hf rigs(IC-7200, alinco dx-sr8t, yaesu ft-757 gxII) and the optima MK3's.

so how much is the at-5555n,,, lol dang this addiction!

Having watched/listened to the video of the 5555 and the 6666; I thought the 5555 had a very clear receive and as you said, the 6666 sounded a bit raspy.

Well my take on all these new radios, if the guy on the other end says the audio sounds good with the stock mic and it receives good not sure that makes it a turd. Bottom line is talking and hearing, having a radio that does 60 watts and other operators tell me it sound really good and that one guy I am about 25 miles away from said so then it's a winner to me. Now the noise issue Duster encountered in his mobile could just be his mobile. I'm going to have to try one in my Tahoe and see cuz I have had a bunch of radios in there and only had noise in one old dog Lafayette the rest were really quiet. My truck is a 98 with all new ignition plugs, wires, cap, rotor and alternator no extra noise reduction anywhere other than what the manufacture put in it. Now seeing as it is a GM vehicle I guess I better be careful with the ignition switch LOL

I like the looks and the video comparison of the 6666 and the 5555N and the 5555N looks like a better radio. Like to see it hit the market and hear a few reviews on it.
