Anytone at-5555n II (version 2)

is there docs on the service menu? my tech wants it for when he aligns it and fixes my modulation.
i thought i saw it somewhere in the thread, but i can't find it.

please and thanks

There are 2 menus.
Long press MENU, setting 01, and set it to 36.

For the MAIN Boot-up Service Menu, Press MENU and MODE while turning the radio on. Then press the other 6 buttons from DW to EMG. I posted the service menu w/my factory settings and a blank one for your use. Write down the numbers before anything is changed. There is no RESET for this menu.

Rock and Roll! many thanks :)

besides the software itself, are there additional drivers needed to connect the radio to a Windows 7 (64 bit) machine? 'USB-Serial Controller' has a question mark next to it once plugged in.

please and thank you

[EDIT] yes, you need to install drivers. at least with my cable (from Scott's Radios) identified by my computer/hardware manager as ''VID_067B&PID_23A3&REV_0605'

did a search, found, download, and installed 'PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v4.0.1.zip' from
here https://www.prolific.com.tw/US/ShowProduct.aspx?p_id=223&pcid=126.

plugged in the cord and it installed the drivers correctly. just had to click on the Communications Port button in the software, and the radio was connected. woo hoo!

also, what the heck is TDC?

I emailed the Amazon seller about the 11 meter mod for this new radio and got a reply this evening. They're telling me they can guide me to the mod but will need the programming cable..... Hmmmm. So this one may not have the wire on the board to snip like the strykers.
yes open up cut white wire and move jumper from 1&2 to 2 & 3 magic on 27 Mhz

anyone able to customize the weather friequencies? if so, what bands? would love to be able to monitor local police, fire, EMS etc. yes, a couple are digital only, but my town is large and still uses 30Mhz voice for Police.

saw a video of it being easy in software for the Aries II, but only thing i can do within QX555n_II software is Add or Delete from scan.

Editing the VHF RX freqs can't be done at the moment. They might be able to add the feature in future firmware (same as ARES II) 140-170MHz. This would be great.

As for increasing the RX range above 30MHz, that is not likely to happen (hardware limitations).

OK, just watched a video about a firmware update in the Ares. One of the added features caught my attention straight up. I forget what it’s labeled in the settings/menu? Lost the video ATM..

When power is turned all the way down on my Q5N2 forward modulation is also weak. This new feature allows an adjustment of that at low carrier settings. Obviously quite beneficial for amplifier use. That lack of forward swing at low carrier was one of the first things I noticed about my radio when I got it.

I haven’t messed with the programming don’t even have the cable for my Q5N2 but I wonder if Anytone has or will include this feature in updates for the Q5N2. This can, I’m sure be done in the service menu. Which I’ve stayed away from.

Buffalo, was it NPC? (Negative Peak Compression) if so, i don't think you want it. from what i heard it causes distortion even when adjusting modulation with NPC enabled.

if it were me, i would take/ship it to someone who is familiar with these newer, menu driven service adjustment radios. Michal from Scott's Radios LLC comes to mind. he has a ton of video on youtube.

seems out of the box the AT-5555n II's under-modulate AM, with too high a dead key at max power. they also severely over-modulate SSB. dunno about FM.

if anyone is considering this radio, i wouldn't suggest purchasing without a proper alignment. these are not good out of the box IMO.

Maybe for getting the radio to swing, a good tech could help. Now about this radios out of the box performance, that's debatable considering many in this forum and in this thread are using them just as they were born. I won't argue about Michael's work, it's top notch! He set up both my q5n2 and ss-7900v, both are top shelf radios.
