Anytone at-6666 v3

The max mod does not run cooler.
The math alone disproves that.

We can do a few calculations to determine if a max mod will run better or worse.
People have done the tests and the calculations and disproven the max mod.

The ERF2030s .. are just custom labelled off the shelf MOSFETs.
I can make a few calls and have MOSFETs that have whatever logo and number I want shipped to my door in a matter of a few weeks.

People are taken by these snake oil mods all the time.... it's your money.
 
A lot of times the vids are slanted to show a particular way the tech does their work - their strong points.

Not a big deal, but when it comes to the OEM design versus "I know a better way" - the proof is not always a Watergate or Videogate - it's your own experience with the system and the way YOU run the radio - not some one that presumes you'll use only AM and FM modes AND you don't care of SSB or any of that Class AB ballyhoo.

If you can understand what the tech is doing and are willing to support his efforts, then it's your money.

We've seen radios - perfectly good rather good shape new line radios - sliding across counters and pushed onto our benches, radios that were tuned up by someone - and the customer isn't talking - we can only presume ourselves the radio was hacked and someone's tried to follow a video.

Ok, with that vid, do you see the entire process. Well - not all the time spent nor is it using the best focus either - so you are left to trust someone whom may, or may not, have your best interests in mind... let alone full disclosure of the services. For we have seen work from techs out here - parts from one radio used to provide a level of performance in another - and both radios are later claimed to have been tuned up by the best.

Again to remind you, if you are comfortable with their work and level of service - or their coffee is to die for - then it is your money...

Again, to presume the tech is having your best interests in mind and you haven't even tried out the radio in it's stock form - do you even know what those quirks are that the tech guy claims to have repaired in that radio?

I've seen too many brand-new OEM radios get blown up under a techs hands only to be pawned off later to someone else whom wanted parts for repairs at their own miracle Hi-Po radio shop.
 
There are less than a handful of people making videos of radio that are not using it to solicit work.
Rule of thumb is if they are working on radios for customers and doing videos they are all sales pitches and you can't believe more than half of what they say.

Now the Anytone...
The ones in the cars were never opened.
I took them out of the boxes... unlocked them... and put the in the cars.
I have been asked who worked on them. Not a soul. The last guy to see inside is over in China.
Great little radios out of the box.
 
I personally don't think the max mod is snake oil,is has worked well in the radios I've put it in. My point is if you don't have any first hand with XXXX radio or mod don't trash it until you've tried it. Done hijacking this thread now.

The proof is in the pudding. I have radios that were never tweaked or "Tuned" and they are over 30 years old and have never needed repair and they are still in specification.
That's how most of the equipment is designed to be reliable. I have not seen a single new radio with the coils deformed. When I had my shop I refused to work on radios that had been "Modded". Since I was doing factory warranty service I would have to report that the modifications were most probability the cause of failure.
Pretty easy to detect when there are traces missing, parts missing, and extra wires hanging in the breeze.
If you want more watts put an amplifier in line. The "GHOST WATTS" you get by mangling the interior is not worth it especially if you VOID your warranty.
 
I have personally tried it. Hell, a friend of mine is the one that debunked it. I verified his results before he published his findings.

Here's a side profile - the best side to show what I'm going to suggest you try to work with in the vehicle or even when you're using it at home base or mobile under counter or on the dash...

Ok, see that mic connector? Got a radio like the size of a PC122 TRC465 or Eagle Sidewinder - you have an idea of the footprint - hold your radio to the screen until it's about that size - note the location of those knobs. Panel switches. Tuning dial and manual rotary encoder... Let alone the display...

Ok, next clue - try to operate all those functions while driving.

Sounds like a smart move. The minute you touch your fingers to the screws somebody wants to blame you for something that happens 2 weeks later.

Yea, tune-ups on a new radio are highly overrated IMO. As an example, I bought a box load of NOS Cybernet 02A boards that Hy-gain was dumping. Shortly after I was given a radio that was so badly abused, broken slugs, damaged coils etc. that I decided to replace the entire board. I was totally taken back when I discovered all the coils and IF’s were spot on if not extremely close. Keep in mind these boards were never previously installed. It’s beyond thinking this was merely a coincidence, but it did prove to me that somehow the manufacture was able to tune everything before the board was ever installed. Was the board placed on some jig and tuned, or was the individual components tuned before they were soldered on the board? Possibly both, but either way the manufacture did a remarkable job.
