Anytone at5555n II high swr on ssb , low swr on am and fm

Unfortunately it came with a no return or refund. I’m not going to call out a person who may or may not have been aware of the problems. I do find it hard to believe that they didn’t know. If by chance they did I will let karma handle it.Btw I did purchase a brand new unopened factory fresh radio replacement.

I don’t do cc online shopping. I purchase and use gift cards such as eBay for eBay and Amazon for Amazon . Exact amount. This way if my account gets hacked no cc info for the thieves. For other purchases I call the establishment directly. Anyway I have written the purchase price of the radio off as a learning experience. Buy brand new unopened from a reputable seller.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your new radio. You might be able to sell it to someone who doesn't use SSB, they might be happy to get a good deal on a nice radio that fits their needs.
I would not wish this radio on my worst enemy. I will keep it as a reminder to myself and maybe someday I will find a local ham with the equipment and expertise to ether fix it completely or I will see if some parts would be useful to myself or others .

Yes sorry to hear this. Its a shame if all it is, is a service menu botch. :(
yes it is and it appears to be just that , someone was obviously playing around with the service menu before I bought the radio . The guys eBay page had a long list exclaiming, how good the radio was and that it was tested and that it worked perfectly that should've been my first clue along with a statement saying make sure you want it and that you're an adult and you know what you're buying yada yada yada well, I'm an adult and those statements should have been my first clues . oh yeah no refunds . lol.

Id probably shelf elf it for now. Over the next while the default service menu settings will get posted and you will be able to at least put it back somewhat close to what the factory had. From what i have read on this, guys that access this internal menu record all the original factory set values before changing anything. I guess the good news for now is that you have a non monkey'd with unit on the way. 73

also, i think its a real shame that a reset on the radio via the menu does not retore the previously set "service menu" settings. I guess the service menu is for engineers :)

Hello everyone I am giving an update on my brand new
Anytone at5555n II / qt 60 pro . Short version or whatever it wants to identify as . Too many rebrands .

Anyway My new radio arrived today and I went to work setting it up. Power, swr , ect.

First I just left the radio “stock “ out of the box to get some base information about what power to expect and check the receiver . Stock came in pretty close to specs 60w , good receive and no hiccups .

Then I preformed the 11m mod and went to work rechecking and tuning swr on my old antenna and guess what ? NO HIGH SWR ON SSB !!!! YEA . In fact the swr is almost flat until I reach ch 35-40 then I only get a 1.4 or less .thats all modes btw Good enough for me right now .

The bands were pretty congested however I did manage to make a couple of contacts one was in San Diego about 200 miles west of my location and the other was in N.W Washington state Somewhere above Seattle. All made on my little 4’ Firestick on a triple mag mount with a couple of wire ground plane wires .
I run the ground plane wires only because I have the mag mount on the roof of my house temporarily setting on a big steel sheet as the roof is aluminum . It works prolly not the best but I intend to purchase a dedicated base antenna soon ( leaning towards a SIRIO 5/8 wave or similar) and good LMR 400 coax to boot .

Ok that’s enough of a novel I’m ready for a stiff drink
Cheers

Good stuff! The bands are in pretty good shape. Have fun!
Thanks
I’m going to not tempt fate and let the radio sit idle until I purchase a base antenna and the LMR 400 coax also a good new ground rod and mounting system for the antenna.

I’m researching the antenna you recommended stay tuned.

Cheers
Roger
