Got an itch and ordered a new TS-590 (HRO has monthly special) yesterday.

I downloaded the Kenwood Software, RCP-590 and was wanting to look it over beforehand, but I guess you have to actually have the rig hooked up to see the software load. I can't seem to find any youtube vids showing the software running.

Wondering if it's any good. I have never really been interested in using PC control on a regular basis. I am under the impression you can program the menu settings, filters and such, is this true?

I mean like, program both VFO's how you like them, disconnect from the software and the rig retains the changed settings.

Is this possible.

I use ARCP-2000 for my radio. I ran it with the software; then without it. Went back to it after a month. Never looked back. Can't say about the 590; but I know the 2000 software makes things accessible that you otherwise just can't get to.

Indispensable.
Excellent.
Recommended.

I just bought a USB to COM port cable for my radio from 'Affordable Radio' on eBay and then found the software online. Be really careful to avoid some of the sites with free hacked software; they can have a nasty virus attached to the download. Go only to the recommended sites - or get it off a torrent.

Thanks Robb,

But can you set all your parameters and have the rig retain the settings without using the software?

Like programming a Wouxun and Baofeng...

If you mean that it uses the same settings as the software when you shut them both off and then re-start them - yes.

In fact, the software has a 'power' switch that will even turn the radio on/off for you.

I'm hoping that I can use the software to program all the settings the way I want and have those settings saved. IAW, save all my settings then never use the software agin, just use the rig manually. I don't want to do it manually if'in I don't hafta.

One of the neat things about it, is that you can put you mouse cursor over one of the numbers on the freq display and right or left click it to go up or down. Yeah; HRD has that too. I use the Kenwood software 99.999% of the time. But the Kewwood software has got a lot more cool than than HRD - IMO . . .

One thing it is possible to do with the Kenwood software is to be able to access the computer connected to the radio from another on the network or even the internet and if you use Skype or another VOIP package, you can send/recieve the audio and use the radio from a remote computer.
