Are these sold anymore?

I have not seen any Magnum 257s sold anywhere.... Are these out of production?

mechanic

I bet you can find them if you look around and still desire a 30W model. The Galaxy DX 99V is out of production for several years now but there's a place called SBH Electronics or something like that, that has new ones for $369 and many several places are selling factory refurbished units with 2 year warranties for $253~299 so these can be had.

30w 257's

The 30 watters are still available but the price of the 80w version is very attractive. You will need to put a fan on it if Magnum doesn't...those RX75 finals get hot!
Do you really get 80W PEP in SSB or just 50W or so. Seem to put out more PEP on AM some how.
Hope someone gets one to test soon...

The RFX 75 units will do 80 watts and they do get pretty warm, I'd recommend a fan. After talking a while if the get hot i did notice the wattage will drop off a little which isn't uncommon in radios and amplifiers.

Overall they definitely put out more watts and will put a stronger signal on another station vs the 30 watt versions.

Sparkys cb and Custom cb Radio both have them for sale. There are many other on-line shops that still sell them. They are the new mosfet powered ones with the blue display.

That's what thermal tracking does in a rig with ab biasing.

:thumbup1: Thanks for being "spin doctors"! I miss my old amber 257 but I guess the blue face will do.... On more question, Are the MOSFET finals as good as I hope?

I like em. I work the daylights out of my Magnum and enjoy the power and other features. MOSFETS throw a lot more power and will swing/PEP really well - moreso that bipolars will.

different folks apparently like different things . IMO swing is highly over rated on AM . yes you need swing for a modulated signal on both AM and SSB . SSB is all swing/modulated pep power because it uses no deadkey . on AM a deadkeying %25 or what your radio will PEP is the recomended ratio of deadkey to swing/pep .

just because something can be done doesnt mean it should be done .

The best improvement with the newer 257's is the much quieter receive. I guess the extra 10-15 watts is ok. I'm actually going to have my blue mosfet 257 tamed down to 30 watts so I can run my amplifiers with it better.
