While checking out collectable ham gear on ogeebay I came across a spring wire amp for $89.999. Why? Why is this person asking this what seems to me an odd number. A high number? I don't know? I'm not familiar with that item. I'm a chicken bander who's interest in boat anchors started when I was 12. A friend of mine operated a EFJ V 500 on 11 meters. As I watched the darkened room glow with a purple bluish glow from those 811a's I knew I wanted a 500. In 82 or 83 in the back of a ham radio mag. I read an ad. New in original boxes unbilt 500 kit for sale $600. I called the number and made an appointment to pick it up. My dad drove me to Penn. where we met the man selling it. He was monk living in a monestary. I bought it put it in my dad's walk in closet where it stayed and like many other pieces I bought was forgotten about. I recently caught the bug. So as iv been uncovering so radios I want to hook up I noticed the larges EF J box the one that contains the power supply section. My memory was jogged. I own an ef Johnson Viking 500 kit. I think there's 3 or 4 boxes. Only opened it when I bought to check the parts with the EFJ 500 parts list all was there. The boxes were taped back up. And there thay still lay in the walkin closet of my dad's bedroom. So here's the question. What's it worth? $1000? $2000? Maybe I'll ask $89.999. I don't need the money and don't think I'd ever sell it. Is it worth what someones willing to pay? Or can a number be put on it? Is it worh anything? It was originally factory purchased in 56. Some or many parts may have gone bad as its 62 years old. Just wondering.
