I want to mount an ATAS 120A on my front bumper. Either on top or on the vertical side surface. I'm looking at a Breedlove and an OPEK mount, but wondering if something else is out there. The bumper has appx. 1/4" plate. I can access the backside easily.

Anyways, looking for Ideas.

OPEK: https://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/hamantm/5592info.html

Breedlove: https://www.breedlovemounts.com/ham-radio-so-239-antenna-mount.html

Also, I might look at the Little Tarheel II.

If you go off road as your winch suggest I don't know about putting an antenna on the front bumper. Water intrusion would be worse on the front bumper.
Also impacts from obstacles would be bad on a tuner antenna. Back bumper maybe?

I don't do traditional off-roading. I use it for pulling timber across a creek. I'm on muddy, rutty trails, but have no issues with brush, limbs and trail side hazards.

I'm starting to lean towards the back quarter panel. Probably go with a UHF ball mount. I wish the antenna didn't have a UHF base. I'm hoping the Breedlove mount can swap balls between UHF and 3/8" stud. Haven't called yet, but would be nice so I can have other whip options. Edit: balls not swappable.

Sure would be nice if you could just switch out the balls. Rear quarter is higher, and probably better for performance, but that bumper sure looks like a nice, secure place for a stud mount. Maybe do the Breedlove UHF ball mount, and us an adapter like this for 3/8" applications?

I considered the Little Tarheel as well but liked the simplicity of just hooking up the ATAS 120A to the rig, and not having to use an interface box for adjusting the antenna. Wish I had some more suggestions for ya!

Thanks,

That adapter has potential. This is the mount for the front bumper. I'll likely try the front bumper and see how it does. I still want to put a big whip on the rear eventually.

I use a bracket custom made for my ATAS 120, been using them on 3 different vehicles since 2006. Bolts into the stake pocket and I run a ground below to the frame.

I'm back with installing an ATAS 120a on my Chevy Cruze. This will be temporary until I get a newer truck or SUV, still looking. Last time I used a Breedlove UHF ball mount on right rear quarter. Worked great. Rig will be another Ft-891. I really like those 891's. My antenna and mount bit the dust when my XJ got totalled.
