I have a problem with a RCI 2990 i bought used.

when you very first turn it on it will key up for like a 1/2 second. whats causing this and is it anything to really worry about? I had another 2990 that did the same thing.

here's the non-technical explanation........

every time the radio is powered up the cpu queries or "strobes" all cpu input functions to determine status. the ptt circuit had to be co-opted via the cpu to allow for functions such as split operation and scanning. the end result of the design causes the ptt input to the cpu to trigger high when the cpu queries or strobes for function status. seems that the query/strobe voltage used by the cpu to determine input status is just enough to activate the transmitter briefly each and every time the transceiver is powered up.

understanding how they work is key to being able to tinker with them.
