Back in the USA Magnum S45HP

A couple of weeks ago I sent E-mail to Sam Lewis at magnum to ask when and if the radio would be back in stock. I was told mid November so I kept checking to see who had it first. The olny place I saw the radio was AT Sparkys CB shack. I e-mailed Him that night and when I got up for work the next day I had a reply. I asked If I could buy the radio stock in unopened box and was told yes but for the same price with no 30 day warrenty (olny the magnum warrenty) He told me his price also was competive with the lowest price and offered me free shipping if I called on thursday or friday. I ordered the radio on Thursday and asked to Have the Frequency mod done along with the alignment and a Tune But did not want the radio Maxed out.AL was honest and told me the work was to be done Friday and would ship friday. And the Radio shipped friday with no shipping charge. I have the radio and It was done to order: I got the radio Tuesday on time with ups tracking that was also sent to me by e-mail from Sparkys. He did not bill until the radio shipped.

I have read bad things about his shop I think if you call Him and tell Him what you want . He will do magic on your radio. To many people want their radios maxed out and ask for peaked and clipped not knowing what that means. I would buy from Him again.

The Radio, Have set it up in the shack and checked swr and talked for a little while but still need to set it up. I am going to open the power mic and set the Mod control inside. I want to set it up when My friend has time to listen to the adjustments. Every control is working and I shut off the beep the radio makes everytime you push a button.The wattage from the Spec sheet in the manual says SSB 80 FM 40 and AM 1-10 watts Average/80+watts pep and that is about what it's doing. Can the radio be set up for 100 watts AM, well maby but that is not what I asked for I wanted and asked to have it set up correctly and thats what Sparkys did. It should run cool and last a long time( I hope anyway) Yes the Radio is quiet as compaired to the RCI 2950dx no white noise. Can also change the tone and set the Rf gain to make it almost silent and still hear all the people I talk to local. more to follow.

Congrats on the new Magnum! Sounds like you have just what you want and the way you want it. Who said you can't have your cake and eat it too?

Sparky is one of the best and it sounds like he may be getting back on track. All good news here.

I bought one of these rigs from Sparky's as well. I have been extremely happy with the performance of the OmegaForce S45HP. I mainly talk sideband, but it's nice to have the "toys" for AM when I talk there.

As you stated, the receiver is very quiet... practically no white noise. This rig has quickly become my favorite for the mobile. Lots of compliments on the transmit audio too, and that is with the stock mic. Glad you like yours as much as I like mine!

is the 45hp you got one of the new ones that was said to have 12 meter capability added to it ? if it is , are there any other differences you have noticed ?

You will always find someone that's not happy no matter how hard you try. With good prices and real tech work when you consider the large number of radio's Sparky sells he gets a very high % of them out the door trouble free. I remember a recent thread where someone bought a factory second Galaxy 949 and had problems. It does happen and with a factory second you touched it last so the entire history of that radio is now your fault.

I just read someplace that Al is taking an active role in the shop again. I've dealt with him for a few years and everything was always great. I just tried to order on line and got that they won't ship north of the border .

Mine is about 7 mos old now, and does not cover 12 meters.

Radio covers 25.165 to 29.505 also I noticed the face of the radio now says MAGNUM S45HP and not Omegaforce. It does show a picture of the same radio on the box with the Omegaforce label on the front. Also I have a brand new RK56 mic and tried it on this radio with excelent reports. The mic is both loud with good audio and also noise cancleing. The noise canceling is something I have been wanting for a long time to eliminate backround noise,Just had no luck with it on other radios!!The stock mike was hard for me to use I keep changeing chanels with the up down buttons, also turned the mic upside down and still hit the up down buttons,also changed the freq every time I set the mic down WTF .It is nice to have 2 mic conectors on one radio.makes it easy to compair.I have the preset buttons set for fav. chanels so to bad for the mic buttons.

Sam Lewis in a return email told me that the new batch of 45HP's hitting the US were same spec as previous, therefore No 12 m band.

I got mine from another source. I am very impressed with the audio.

Yup, I hear the new versions are going to be 2012 models. Binrat, I feel your pain on shipping into Canada, customs can be a pain in the rear. Back in 05 we were going to visit Canada for my daughters 16th birthday. We went through in Sault Ste Marie, MI. It was a pain in the rear in Canada, my 14 year old daughter did not have a "proper ID" I guess. We did not even spend an hour in Canada. They can kiss my a$$, I will never go back. Sad too, when I was a kid in Warren,MI we went to Canada all the time with no trouble.

It is good Magnum are not changing the S-45HP as it is a solid performer and only needs a fan on the heatsink.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Is this a Canada/USA problem only. Al was prepared to ship to Australia but were out of stock at the time and I need to source one whilst the Aussie dollar was higher than the green back. After I purchased one via Indonesia the AUD slid back below parity but is now slightly higher.

The radio shipped very quickly, thanks mate. The audio is very clear and all I need now is to improve the antenna and the coax. A friend reckons the reception is very clear.

Actually shipping stuff into Canada is easy. Take it to the post office and do a form thats attached to the package. I ship stuff back and forth all the time.
Moving people back and forth is another story thats for sure.

Well I got one yesterday from Ebay, 3 months old and some ass had his hands in it, has a 60 watt carrier on SSB, talks great on AM but Sideband stinks and all I talk is Sideband so back it goes to the seller that must have hacked it up himself, why do people think they can make a great radio better, all that guy did was cause himself agrivation and a return.
