Background Noise

I drive a 2000 model Peterbilt 379 with a Uni-bilt sleeper truck. I'm using a Magnum S9 and two Wilson Trucker 5000 antennas. I have a high background or static noise in my radio, but when I go through rain the noise disappears. It also picks up electrical interference sometimes when I'm close to power lines. Any Ideas? Any and all Help will be greatly Appreciated!

sounds like a grounding problem , that's why the rain seems to clean it up for you , How to fix it would be the trick ? IM guessing to say that most of your noise is antenna related , Hows your match on that set up of dual antenna's ? More and more nowadays , guys aren't going with the dual set ups anymore , in other words you can sometimes do better or much better with just one antenna. I think there are many others around here better suited to help you out on this one. But it surely sounds like a grounding problem to me. Which would mean more grounds concerning your antenna's and maybe even radio . I also moved your question to the antenna section of the Forum , so check that out the next time your around. Well, when I first installed these antennas I had like a 1.2 to a 1.3 on both of them. I can hear a pretty good piece, like 2 to 3 miles maybe even more sometimes when the noise ain't too bad. I've been told that it gets out even farther. They say I've been heard up to 15 to miles 20 miles down the road, I don't know!?

sounds like you have some good money tied up into your system Chris , if your not real sure about all this and you can afford the help ? , ask around your area for a good well respected radio shop , IM sure for a few greenbacks you can get things fixed . Good shops have on the spot installation service and will use the top of the line antenna analizers to help figure out problems you may be having. Your S-9 is a fine radio and Wilson antenna's are one of the best on the market today.IM sure with some more grounding involved your problems can be lessened.
