Barbaro

Would also like to think theres a chance to save this horse. But the length of time for that break to heal is longer than a horse can safely be slinged. We'll see, but I think they will grab as much seman as they can and the horse will be destroyed. It is truly a shame.

WELL IT MAY BE THE BEST IN THE LONG RUN .THAN HAVE IT LIVE OUT THE REST OF ITS LIFE BEING LAME.

IT IS SAD TO HAVE TO PUT ANY(PET) ANIMAL DOWN

If he had no equipment he would be a guilding not a stud. And if that were the case he would already have been put down.

I think its cruel also, but its business too.

Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro underwent more than five hours of surgery Sunday to repair rear leg bones he broke in the Preakness. The horse calmly awoke from anesthesia and "practically jogged back to his stall" for something to eat, his veterinarian said. "Right now he's very happy," said Dr. Dean Richardson after the surgery. But his odds for survival still are put at 50-50.

Despite the huge first step on the road to recovery, Dr. Dean Richardson said the Kentucky Derby winner's fate still came down to "a coin toss."

"Right now he's very happy," Richardson said after the surgery at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center for Large Animals. "He's eating, he's doing very good. But I've been doing this too long to know that day one is not the end of things."

You think they managed to "Harvest" any sperm; the only reason they kept him around was in hopes of making little Barbaros.

That wasn't the only reason according to Barbaros owners.

"The Jacksons spent tens of thousands of dollars hoping the best horse they ever owned would recover and be able to live a comfortable life on the farm - whether he was able to breed or not".

Churchill Downs would welcome Barbaro

KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. (AP) - Barbaro's final resting place could be just a few hundred yards from the scene of his greatest triumph in the Kentucky Derby.

Officials at the Kentucky Derby Museum, located on the grounds of Churchill Downs, said Tuesday they'd be "honored" if Barbaro were buried in a garden along with four other Derby winners.

"We've expressed to them how honored we'd be to have Barbaro here," Lynn Ashton, executive director of the museum, said. "We feel like we're bringing horses back to be honored."

The grave sites of Derby winners Sunny's Halo (1983), Carry Back (1961), Swaps (1955) and Brokers Tip (1933) are located outside on the museum grounds.

Owners Gretchen and Roy Jackson said Monday a final decision on where Barbaro would be buried had not been made. Another possibility could be the Jacksons' Lael Farm, just a few miles away from the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center.

The Jacksons did not immediately return phone calls Tuesday morning.

Barbaro was euthanized Monday after complications from his gruesome breakdown at last year's Preakness, ending an eight-month ordeal that made him even more of a hero than he was as an undefeated Derby winner.

Well, it took eight months and thousdands of dollars but this morning a great horse was put down. Wonder who truly suffered.

Not the owners and that's for sure and to think that horse got laid more in the last few months than he did his entire life and his legacy will live in for many generations through artificial insemenation, or AI if you will.

The semen wont gain them much in the horse world and is totally USELESS in the racing world. You can not AI a thoroughbred.
