has anybody ever tried pulsetech desulphators?

i have been looking at desulphators for a few years,
i made a crude unit and drove it with my signal generator, it was rubbish but it did convince me there may be something to the idea,
i spotted a pulsetech powerpulse on ebay at a great price so i thought i would try one,

the first bettery i tested it on is a 12ah leadacid flashlight battery that was charged fully once from new then discharged and left to go flat for months, i kept telling my buddy to keep it charged at all times otherwise he would end up with a useless battery,
he did not listen and left both his lamps discharged and ended up with two useless lamps that would take no charge at all from the supplied switchmode charger or a regular car battery charger,
he gave them to me because its cheaper to buy a new lamp than a new battery over here,

i thought they were ideal to try the powerpulse, 2 batteries that could not be wornout because they have done no work but as far as joe public was concerned they were dead and going to the councill waste disposal site

i dialed in 20ma and 30v and hooked the 12ah up,
nothing dead not even making 1ma of charge current,
after about 4hrs at 30v the current slowly started to flow untill it reached 20ma where the volts started folding back,

i watched it slowly come down below 12v then i dialed in 500ma of trickle charge and set max volts at 14.5v and left it several days,
still not taking any real charge it looked like a cell was short or internal resistance was high as it would not hold even 12v under load, i tried to give it a quick blast with 6amps to give a a kick in the pants but i could not develope 6amps with only 30v max

it was time to hook up the powerpulse and keep an eye on the meters,
after 2 days of the little black box flashing its led at me the battery was taking a real charge,

i took it up to 15v and needed 112ma to maintain the battery and the powerpulse,
i slotted the battery back in the lamp to give it some real work,
2 fillaments 100w and 130w both lit and to my surprise it seems perfect again,
i put it back on charge and hooked the other battery up in parallel, only 4ah 2x6v in series,

now this battery never had balls from new and would not take any charge at all after spending far more time discharged than charged during its 4 or 5 charge lifespan,

his lamp never was as good as mine depite been the same lamp same 100w phillips bulb and been newer than mine,

there was a clear difference between our lamps and it was there from brand new,
throw in his poor charging regime
( he only charged it right before he needed to use it ) and that = another dead battery,

after starting it off at 30v untill i saw some current flowing then hooking it in parallel to desulphate along with the 12ah for 36hrs,
i can see a notable difference in brightness when i compare it to my own lamp, they are much closer in brilliance than they were before,

this thing seems to work to me,
it definately does something to a small lead acid battery that my bench supplies will not do on their own,
i have tried to revive batteries in the same or similar condition no end of times in the past and never had results like this, maybe its just a fluke but i dont think so..

That looks like a slick charging system, I haven't read it completly yet, but I might have to give one of them a try.

I use the 12v/12ah SLA batteries also for my lights, with the 100w OSRAM Xenophot bulbs. Although I do not let my batteries go dead, I have let them set for 6 to 7 months and they are still fully charged.

The charger I use is a Wal wart and it has a "float" charge - 500ma.

I have a 6v gell battery for one of my smaller lights and you may not believe this, but it has now passed the 20 yr mark a couple months ago... and it's still producing light!!

Well I done some more searching and it looks like this charging system my be just what I need.
So looks like I will be ordering one shortly!

powerpulse scored again,
4 or 5 months ago i charged my lamp and put it away, when i came to use it a week ago it lit pretty bright but i thought i should give it a charge and hooked it up to my bench psu,
it took a charge for about 10 seconds as i sat and watched the current fall much faster than usual then nothing it was taking no current even at 15v, after a couple of days nothing had changed, it was sat at 15v taking no current,
i used the lamp for a while to discharge the batteries then put it back on charge, same thing a rapid fall in current draw from the psu, damit the batteries had gone high resistance so i removed them to measure the voltage across each,
i had about 1.4v difference between the 2 series connected batteries,
increasing the charge voltage to 16v to gas them a little and stir up the electrolyte did nothing to help, within a few seconds the volts where at 16 and no current draw still had about the same difference in volts across the 2 batteries,
i disconnected the charger and hooked up the powerpulse,
after 3 days i measured the voltages and to my amazement they were within .01v of each other, my first thoughts were you gotta be kidding me here,
hooked the charger back up and they are charging as usual, no more high resistance,
i have tried to charge batteries in this state many times sometimes for weeks with differing results but nothing like this kind of recovery,
im convinced the pulsetech does help to desulphate lead acid batteries much better than the switchmode charger that came with the lamp or my bench power supplys.

Well Bob85,
Just thought I would revive this topic again.

I should have the RediPulse 6/12v here this week, getting it from
batterystuff.com

Will write more later....

Well back to the top again.

I got the PulseTech 6/12v charger a few weeks back and the first thing I wanted to test was a 6v battery.

I have a charger with a LED on it, this yellow light will go out when the battery is fully charge. But on this one battery (6v) it would never go out - even after 12 hr charging.

So now comes the Redi/Pulse. I connected it for 12 hrs and then I put the standard 500ma charger back on. Boy what a surprise! The light on standard charger disappeared in 20 minutes (remember, the light would not go out after 12 hrs of charging).

So now I am thinking I had better try the spotlight with the battery and see what improvement there might be.
Well I couldn't see any difference in the brightness, but after using the light off and on for 2 wk's, looking for them Coyotes that keep waking me up, the battery has shown a big improvement in holding a good charge longer now.

So I think your right bob85, looks like they are a good thing for our batteries.

Here is the Pulse Tech on a 12v - 12Amp SLA (this is what I use for the spotlight that I use for night hunting - it's 5 1/2 yrs old).
