Best beam for the buck???

Can I get some suggestions for a smaller beam antenna for 11 meters (CB).

What is the best bang for the buck.

I know this sound stooooopid but I am trying to stay away from a beam antenna with a 16 foot boom or bigger.....any suggestions?

I know there are 12 footers out there....but are they worth it?

siro 3 el...or a maco v qud,both are good and cheap,i like in a ice area...if its not a big snow every few yrs,its a big ice strm...and both are good and cheap,the v quad is light and can turn with a cheap rad shack rotor...73 de JW

Two element quad, home brewed for less than $20 to $30 depending on the material you have laying around.

Can be turned with radio shack rotor and puts out a heck of a single for DB gain per $$ spent.

Look at the Maco Shooting Star 4 element dual polarity or the Gizmotchy 3 or 4 element dual paolarity they are both ownes and made by Gizmotchy (Tom Charles) You can call and talk to Tom directly if you have any questions. I own both beams but am partial to my Gizmotchy 3 which I have the "Booster Kit" 4th element addon kit to put on before the snow flies. The Gizmotchy is also extremely light and can be turned with a good T.V. antenna rotor!!

Eitherway dual polarity is nice because you get vertical and horizontal to use or play with

Actually I'm currently reviewing the new MFJ 10 meter Moxon antenna and it will work for 11 meters. Seems to work very well so far. Very compact and lightweight. $90

Moxon are GREAT small antennas, have good gain across the whole useable bandwidth and as stated are light weight.

They can also be installed vertical to and thus makes it a decent choice for 11 meter local talkling,

For really small footprint and strong performance, I'd have to go with a 2 element quad, or a PDL-II if you can find one. You can get the 2 elements in both polarities, and of course the PDL-II did both. You can mount them on a pole, and use a light duty or tv rotor.

If you already have a good ground plane to handle your vertical needs, consider this: For maximum gain and rejection that is right on the edge of having to spend a lot of money, the Maco 104C gets my vote. It is a little longer than 16', but is still strong enough, but light enough for a medium duty rotor and a strong pole (or light Rohn 25G tower). You can use the Signal Engineering site's specs to tune it for the free band, and it will really kick butt. Ask me how I know. The "ultimate 11 meter" beam is actually less than 14 feet long, and if you want to you can whack some of the boom with a hacksaw to shorten it.

You might come out cheaper with the Sirio 4 element and match the specs from the site above, but I do know that folks have told me the aluminum wall thickness is not as good with the Sirio vs. the Maco. In a case where you don't have bad weather, the lighter Sirio antenna could actually be a bonus.

are you finding the 3 element Gizmotchy performance equal to the Shooting Star. also how do you rate the over all performance and do you think adding the 4th element will make it better then the Shooting Star i've been thinking about doing a 5 element Gizmotchy because they are so lite i've just been a little leary of the design. i know guys with the Jogunn star series sharing the same design as the Gizmotchy but the star series don't hold a candle to the conventional design Yagi's. with the same elements.
