I am new to this forum, so forgive my basic question. Which would be the best antenna for a 32 ft Class A motorhome with a rubber roof. The body is fiberglass/gelcoat. We only use the RV 3-4 times a year and I want to add a CB..Thanks in advance for input.

It is a fine question...

If it has large side mirrors - like a diesel tractor does - then I would mount a 5 ft Hustler 'Firestick'. Mounted with a mirror mount. It should perform as well as they do on so many trucks that pass over our highways every day - using the same antenna. The Firestick is relatively inexpensive, easy to tune, and can be easily found most anywhere. It is a 'top loaded coil' antenna; which means that it should be pretty efficient. Get a high quality mirror mount and use a piece of decent quality coaxial cable. Then, set the SWR - and it should work quite well - IMO . . .

If it's a class A, the mirrors brackets are probably an odd shape that won't take a standard mirror mount. Do you have a ladder on the back? You could mount a mirror mount toward the top of the ladder and put a short 3' fiberglass antenna. You could also use something like a Wilson Trucker 2000 if you want to spend a little more. If mount it on the rear ladder, you can run the coax down the side of the ladder with zip ties, underneath the entire chassis and up into the cab somewhere. That's basically what I did on my class C. You will probably still have to run some wide ground strap from the mount down to the frame because the ladder has some type of coating on it that doesn't conduct very well.

i wonder how a full length dipole running front to back a few feet above the middle of the roof would do ?

Thanks for the help. Ladder is aluminum. What about using Firestick, NPG with a side mount...did some research and found that antenna.

Mirror mount firestick will work decently you could even go with a no ground firestick alot of RVs are fiberglass a magmount antenna will not work
