I agree. If I was buying a compact radio of the like it would definately be a 510XL. I have had one in the wife's car and it worked well. I have had (still do) a midland 1001z and i don't like it. My buddy uses a Cobra 19 DXlll and its better than the midland. I haven't used the DXlV but I doubt its any better than the DXlll. I think the Uniden is the best choice of the forementioned.

Looks the pro510XL is the winner

Is it possible to tune the radio eaisly to 2 watts for running a small amp such as a KL35 or KL60 by rm italy. looking for a small compact setup with a little punch Small in size is the key.

I do believe there is but I'm having a brainfart right now.

Save just a few more bucks and get a Galaxy DX959. You'll be adding sideband, frequency counter, roger beep, talkback and a very easy mod to get many extra channels.

The DX959 is a nice radio but size matters.Wanted to go real small. But still have something usefull. was looking at the compact Cobra 75 WXST hide a way radio, but the price is more than double the 510xl and I never hear anything about it.other than the little speaker is anoying after awhile.

What about the newer unider pro 505XL dont look like its able to adjust other than AM power. But has pa jack for adding talk back Any good but mot as good as ths Pro 510XL???????

Got the Uniden pro520xl- nice radio-when I use it I just use it stock with and amplified mic- I could only turn down the output power to about 2 1/2 watts...wouldn't go any lower using the adjustment pot. There really aren't many adjustment to that radio as Uniden uses a lot of surface mount technology in their radios. Also, much of the info regarding schematics, adjustments, etc. don't seem to apply to the newer models as I believe they have changed their boards and there doesn't seem to be much info regarding newer schematics- there are also very few adjustment pots in their newer model...still all in all a nice compact radio IMHO.
