I didn't see a place elsewhere to post this so I figured this would be as good as any.
Long story short, I live just outside of tornado alley and we do get severe weather here often. Back in 2008 I purchased a Radioshack weather radio, model 12-521. It's an NOAA and it receives SAME weather alerts. It's a nice radio, in which you can program it for only your county to go off if a tornado, etc. approaches. It sells new for $69.99.
However after a year and a half of ownership, I no longer receive weather alerts. Once we had a tornado warning near my home and I was not alerted of it until the TV broadcast came on.
I have added an additional telescoping antenna, put the radio in a 2nd story room next to the window, reset it, etc. Still it does not get the weekly alert from the NWS and it doesn't go off if a severe weather alert goes out. This radio is supposed to warn you (even if you're asleep) of an approaching t-strom, tornado, etc.and it used to, but not anymore.
I did a research online at Radio Shack and I realize I am not alone. apparently this is a common problem which has been going on for a long time with others. Out of 81 reviews, this radio only gets a 2.3 rating. Yikes. How I wished i had known this before hand.

So....does anyone have a weather radio they would recommend that would not fail to do it's job in the event of a severe storm?
Thanks in advance.
