I thought that it was well written, but I wish that "tech 883" been less ambiguous and more definitive about his measurement techniques. Statements like," With all the measurements using our 1/4 wave whip in hand, a formula is created that establishes our 9-foot antenna as the benchmark, and it is entered into the computer and normalized to 100%. HUH ??? I'd like to know more about this formula and computer program. Other measuring techniques, especially the one for measuring the rf current above and below the coil would be good to know. I'm not complaining here, it's just that this stuff interests me and knowing about it would add credibility to these tests.

Nothing wrong with that link Booty, if fact there is some good reading to be had on that site.
It is a bit deep on the Technical, but if one can get a grip on it, there is a lot of of info there.

I am trying to read the w8ji article but it going to take a while...:D

Why does the skipshooter 7 foot stand out? It is entirely a coil. Not just for audio shockwave by the way.(y)

I have never run one, but just looking at how it is made, I would say length.
I do not know much about how it is constructed other that a typical loaded fiberglass whip, but total length is also important in how well a antenna works.

Any one here run one?

My buddy Mike has one. Nicely constructed, a good solid wire up most of the length, then several turns near the top, plus a short adjustable stinger. Approximately 7' tall. I believe the fact that it's a sort of almost "top loaded" antenna makes all the difference.

still haven't got that answer if a oil coil antenna can glow with the right amount of wattage>?
