Got a brand new 2950dxcd and it was dead on frequency, amazing. But, the low power setting was at 2w so i put it at 1w per the service manual and now its off frequency just a little. The only other thing i did was tuck the e chip under a wire harness. Im wondering if the e chip can be messed up by doing that? It was just floating in free space. And yes i turned the correct pot for low power adjustment and nothing more? Thoughts?

Its all the wires that are plugged into the the faceplate for the readout, lights, etc. Ater work im gonna put the e chip back how it was and see what happens. Arrrrgh, unmount radio, open it, close it, remount.....

e-chip will be fine tucked up under there. If your critical about frequency, just adjust back on and put the cases back on. I usually turn the unit on and let it stabilize for 30-40 mins before I do adjustments. Cheers

OK anywhere along the faceplate will be fine. Nothing there to detune. You never said how far off frequency it was.

It went up 30hz. ( i think thats right)The very last digit has to be on 3 now, not 0. Example: 27.3853. If the e chip is fine why did the frequency go off? Very very weird to, and frustrating.

Is it off frequency in receive?

Or only transmit?

There is a trimpot that lines up the transmitter to the same frequency as the clarifier when set dead center.

Or not, if it gets bumped, maybe?

Pretty sure it's marked VR8. The callout on the schematic is a bit grubby.

That would be 300 Hz not 30. The E-chip is simply an integrated circuit that basically controls the microprocessor. No way it would result in a 300 Hz shift.
Ok. Thats why its very strange. The radio was dead nuts on frequency, absolutely did not touch or bump a thing. All i did was turn the low power pot down and move the e chip. Makes no sense.

Are you checking it right after you turn it on, like after it’s been sitting in a cold truck all night. I would bring it into the house and leave it turned on for 5 or six hours and check it again. If it’s still 300hz off I would try adjusting something to put it back on frequency. Every galaxy/rci radio I’ve ever had, which is 3 of them. Was totally unusable on sideband out of the box, I’m talking 100% garbled,
I wonder how many galaxy dx959’s someone would have to purchase and return, before they got one that would tx on frequency right out of the box.

I used both a galaxy 99v and 2547 for years. Worked many a stations with those radios and although slightly drifty for the first few minutes they performed pretty well.
