I recently tried to hook up an old linear to my cobra cb, I found that although the linear worked it gave an unclear transmission. My antenna was tuned before the installation of the linear channel 1=2 channel19= 1.5 channel equaled 2.2 I ran the linear for a few transmissions then I removed it and tried to re tune the antenna. Now the readings I have are channel1=2 channel 19= 1 the needle barely moves and channel 40= 2. The low reading on channel 19 concerns me should it?

is your mic gain too high?
is the shielding properly set on each connector of the pl259?
tune your antenna with the radio barefoot, take the meter out of line install your amp check every connector (coax) make sure your mic gain is not too high or you will over modulate your linear ( sound fuzzy) check the mic too if its a power mic and enjoy.
most people say: anything higher than 2.0 swr reading, with your amp and it wont last.

your swr is fine . find out what pills are in your amp and what the MANUFACTURE OF THE PILLS say they are rated to do . DONT pay attention to what number is on the amp or what the amp builder may say it should do . try to not let the amp exceed that amount and when running AM try to dead-key around %25 of that amount .

thanks guys iI think iI will just leave the amp out of it. so iI shouldn't be worried about the swr of 1 on channel 19 without the
amp hooked up?

crap , i got a buzzover . 2 is ok barefooted , id want 1.5 or lower for a amp .

sorry
