This thing is taller than the A99, made of aluminum and has a 2 foot ring around it about a 3rd of the way up from the bottom with concentric rods extending downwards towards the bottom for support. It is about 15 feet tall. I would post a pic, but I don't know how. I can't seem to find anything like it. Somebody told me it was made by Jo Gunn but out of production? Anybody care to venture a guess?

Well if its only 15' tall it is not taller than the A99 as they were 18' If its way taller than the A99 it sounds like an old Sigma but they were very tall....Like 28'

My guess is it is an older Avanti Sigma 4 or a newer copy tyhe Sirio Vector 4000. Just a guess without any pictures to go by.Can you post a link if there is one?

On edit: Is this it Jerry?

THAT'S IT!!!! I couldn't think of the name of it to save me! I had that on my mind all day and it wouldn't come to me. I HATE when that happens! (Hush about senior moments!) :p

Thanks! Any idea where one could find one other than Britain?

Just a question....why is it you want one of those? Fascinated with the Ice Cream cone look? :?:

Speaking for myself, I have always liked the "look" of the Sigma IV! I had one of the latest versions (Antenna Specialist) and it looked cool! It did not perform as well as my Sigma 5/8 though. Still, it IS a good looking antenna!!

No, just looking to replace a slightly shopworn A99 with something better. Guess I could go back with A99, but just wanted something different for 10M. Friend of mine has one!

sigma 4 / Salute / avanta .....we called them salute's . all the big strappers ran those champagne looking glass with the monster stingers (27ft) coming up the middle of them. They never really handled wind very well ,(I don't care how well you guided it down) but a very good talking and receiving antenna all the same. You could go through the neighborhood and if anyone still had one ,they were always bent to $hit but they still kicked a$$ on the band. 15ft would be to short CW (that's if your talking about the stinger ?) it might be possible that the top of the hoop is 15ft to the bottom were it connects, but don't quote me on that.If I recall ? they also had a gamma rod on them ? Not the prettiest antenna on the block , but they worked and they worked well.

I goofed on the length--just guessing. Friend of mine has one on 10 meters. Thot I'd see if I could find one in reasonable shape and reasonable $$.. No hurry, tho. It seems to work very well for him on 28 MHZ.
