I like to recap old mobile sweep tube linears, useless to most people but I really enjoy them. The thing is money is tight these days and high voltage capacitors are not cheap. Many of the mobile amps I have use 500 volt capacitors in the filter circuit.
The Golden Falcon 150 (1x2 8950) I have uses 2 500v 40 uf capacitors in the hv filter, Could I use 2 80uf 500v in their place I can get those for about a third of the price of the 40uf 500v?

yes two 80uf 250vdc in series will give 40uf at 500vdc
80uf at 500vdc will work fine .
Dig in the junk box and use what you got.
