Canadian Smoke

Lack of forest management is the problem. If these enviro-whackos would allow cutting, clearing and replanting we wouldn't have these issues. California is finding out.
Here in SoCal most of all the vegetation on the mountains is chaparral. Basically impossible to clear. Our local range (San Gabriel mtns.) is one of the steepest in the US. It’s basically impossible to get crews up on the side. 99% of the time our wildfires are man made. So when CalFire fights the fire, majority with air resources with the big boy being a 747 jet.

We see the DC 10 and helicopters up here more than anything.
It is extremely rugged terrain around and up into Yosemite, no way to get hand crews into these areas.
The Forest Service does prescribed burns inside the park to reduce fuel loads every year, but one of the biggest problems is beetle infestation killing trees.
There are areas that look like someone's sprayed paraquat from a plane across the forest and killed off everything.

Yes the bark beetle is notorious in our Big Bear Mountains as well!! Black dead trees just waiting to explode. But yes terrain makes it so much more difficult. I am waiting to see what happens this year in SoCal.
