my in dash cd player when switched on creates interference on my cb, whats the easiest way to cut out the interference, apart from turn off the cd player.

ive got ferrite beads on the cb power leads to cut down some interference from the car.

pull out the cd player and put a .01uf or .1uf cap (or both perhaps) across the power leads. You also might have to wind the power leads a few turns around a ferrite torroid. You can also try making a powerline noise filter for your CB, but it would be better to eliminate the RFI at the source.

thanks for the input, il give it a try
just on the positive lead??? or power to earth lead. how exactly do i install??

shadow,

it may sound strange to place an electronic component across the positive and negative leads of your car stereo, but a capacitor wont pass DC electricity through it.

so, on the back of your car stereo, within the first 4-6 inches of wire coming out; scrape off some insulation on both the positive and the negative power wires.

wrap one of the leads of the capacitor around the positive wire where the copper is exposed and solder it together.
wrap the other lead of the capacitor around the negative wire where the copper is exposed and solder it together.

completely insulate both connections.

you could also cut the pos and neg wires, strip the ends, twist them back together, twist the capacitor leads on, and use wire nuts to keep them all connected. just be sure to tape up the wire nuts so they cant come off.

good luck,
LC

You might also try that power line choke (torroid) with that capacitor. I'd wind as much wire on that torroid as I could conveniently get on it. The (+) lead for sure, the ground too if necessary.
Another 'trick' with torroids as chokes, if you have two of them, or one is large enough, make those wire windings go in both directions. One torroid/or half the windings clockwise, the other counter-clockwise. Yeah, sounds silly, but it works for some noise.
And naturally, since you've probably got a 5 gallon bucket of those torroids, put one or more on the radio's power leads too. The CD's speakers leads. And around your neck just for the @#$$ of it.
If the caps/chokes make -any- difference, then you're at least in the right place.

(I'd mention the last resort, beating the @#$ thing to death with a hammer, but I figure you're not ready for that yet...)

lol, i like your style, i have the cap, 2 toroids, one is wound round 3 times for the cb, the cd player now has the cap, plus a torroid, wound round also, hadnt thought of the speaker wire though, i think my boot setup could be an issue , process of elimination, i have 2 amps and 3 subs, that surely must be giving out some interference, if the sounds low, the crackle reduces, but still crackles on startup and shutdown of the cd player,
dont even get me started with the hid headlights, i dont use the cb if its dark, i have another post running about them, i am getting fed up, are newer radios less prone to these probs, mines about 8 years old from a m8. the burner prob doesnt help either
