CB Go Box Project

Sorry to hear that it didn't go well. I have made a few T2LTs before. Most recently I tested one out in my yard attached to just a piece of PVC in a tripod on the ground. I was able to talk with locals ~5-15 miles that day and I was just messing around for a half and hour or so trying to make a couple of contacts.

Here is some info on the T2LT that also links a video

in fact..here is an older post on this board about them :)

I suppose there are some other antenna options that can be deployed in the field pretty easily - but a dipole is pretty easy to stow away. The t2lt is a cinch to set up and is light as hell. Wire ties to a piece of fence will work due to its low weight for instance.

Depending on your variables, and who you ask, the inverted vee would be mostly horizontally polarized. That would make most local cb stations hard to contact as they are typically running vertical. Skip is bad right now, so I'm not surprised you didn't make a dx contact.

Don't be discouraged. Try vertical, or wait until some skip is rolling.

Thank you Dragon449 and 338_MtRushmore, i think i will give it a few more outings before giving up on the dipole. I would like to add some height first the try a slope or vertical formation. I will stick with it and let you know of the results.

He said it is a SO-239. It is not. It is a 3/8x24 stud mount for a mobile antenna.

Once again; what is that for?

Looks like a stud mount with an attached SO239 to me.
Will be interested to see what 822 says.

I was thinking that he showed a pic of it with a Firestik attached. Not going to work very well that way, but it is what it is.

As others have stated, you need a vertical antenna for local talk.

Brett,
The pic in Post #16 shows a Firestik or similar antenna attached. That's what made me think there was a SO239 on the stud mount. Perhaps not.

Maybe there's a counterpoise wire or two that's not shown.
Possibly, but it's going to put him in too close of proximity to the antenna. That will throw SWR off, and if he uses the amplifier, will make his head glow at night. ;) Should work ok for monitoring, I would guess.

I DO like how the box came together... looks really nice.

Agree on all accounts. I especially like the workmanship.
One he gets the antenna portion worked out it should be a blast. And convenient.

I'll go ahead and suggest an 11 meter End Fedz from LNR Electronics. https://www.lnrprecision.com/endfedz/

Yes the second connection is a 3/8x24 stud mount for a firestik antenna, it works pretty well on its own, i installed for around camp type talking, but the main reason it is so i can hook up my sdr to it and monitor signals via my cell phone app
