Changing limiting diode rather than clipping.

A while back i began my quest in modifying a radio for home use as an on going project. It's a cobra 29lx with rfx75 i installed. I've also done every mod i could find. I'm sure any one reading this has seen my post before about this radio. I consider it pretty good with. It's doing 20/ 80 give or take.

I've seen all kinds of crap about clipping parts and soldering jumpers and thus didn't seem good to me. Then it occurred that this limiter diode was a4148 common switching diode, which has a considerable high voltage drop. I've got a collection of old germanium diode including some Russian detector diodes. Would subbing the ge diode be an alternate way of doing this mod without clipping it since its lower threshold?

Besides the swing mod used for this chassis with the RFX 75, the receive and noise blanket diodes can also be upgraded with the Schottky 1N6263. No radio re-alignment necessary.

Putting in a larger filter capacitor (largest cap found nearest the power plug) will help keep more noise out and act a bit like a stiffening capacitor for transient peaks when transmitting. You can also put in a larger filter cap near the audio IC.

Have you done any audio improvement mods? There are some found on this thread:
http://www.worldwidedx.com/cb-radio...bra-29-high-power-mod-2sc1969-transistor.html

If you are gauging the output of the RFX 75 with a Dosy meter; then it is possible that you are really over-driving it and it may prematurely fail. Check it with a true peak reading watt meter; it will give the real picture.

Like to hear what you find out when you change out that diode.

I use actually have done several of them. I removed 1 complete turn off the output slug, i changed the 3300uf cap, i have not changed the modulation pot to the 1k resistor, should i do this? I will also switch the resistor s. which out put cap should i replace ? And with what value, which audio cap., also I've heard of the receive diode change but don't know which ones, can i use bat 85
