from michigan to iowa. no worry about speed, as long as it gets there.
I usually just use the uspo since they're so close, but this is big enough I'm sure it'll cost big. I'm looking to save as much as possible.
any thoughts?
can you do it like an airline and get a discount for a round trip?

If you box it up and weigh it you can go to the post office website for an estimate. Then if you want to add insurance or tracking you can get a good estimate. The cheapest way is allways have someone else pay the shipping...

wow thanks grogan, I appreciate the offer, but I'd feel strange letting you pay for it.
I do need to dig through my boxes to see if what I've got will work. I knew I shouldn't have broken down those boxes.

Please if you ship it ship it insured the idiot I bought my 2000 from shipped it like you would ship like magazines which is the cheapest way to ship when I received it the packing was falling out if the box an I had to spend some $'s to get so it was A-1 ( it did work when I got it ) but I spent a lot of $$ for the radio an if he had insurance it would have saved me a few $'s . Just my opinion been on the receiving end .

I wonder if you got your 2000 from the same guy I bought the madison from.
the box was too large, with no packing material, and a D104 lollipop tossed in for good measure.
I was pissed.
I pack well and do get insurance.

I have shipped USPS a bunch of times but I ship in the original box if possible. Then I put that box into a bigger box and fill it with trash ( from the paper shreader ) sometimes I put the paper in plastic bags or ziplock bags and ship insured.

well according to their websites, fedx says 22$, which sounds ok.
the post office says 12 for media mail but the radio doesn't fit their criteria which leaves the next step up at 111$.
that's quite the jump in price...
ups's site wouldn't give me a price...

looks like fedx is the winner.

just for s&g's, here's how it came...

that tape was the only thing holding the cardboard in the opening, and to top it off, they left the cord plugged in, which dented in the plug area.
and here's my pack job.

sitting on a piece of 3" foam rubber with bubble wrap in front and back to protect the face and connections while providing more give than the styrofoam peanuts.
not as good as grogan's double boxing, but barring some huge unforeseen accident, plenty for normal shipping issues.
unplugged, by the way.

Space Cowboy Sweet job on the packing ! My 2k came from SC an the speakers an such were in garbage bags with busted up Styrofoam an some peanuts it didn't help much my box looked like the one you received when the mailman took it out of the truck I almost had a stroke ! He charged me $38 for shipping an it cost him $14 I wish he was as careful as you when he packed it ! I certainly would have a problem purchasing something from you .

I use (USPS) 2 -3 day US Priority Mail for everything after UPS 9Unreliable Package Service took me for a few Grand on a Yaesu HF base radio and an amplifier they destroyed and then mysteriously missplaced both items yupp thats right they LOST them!! Best part was then again mysteriously none of the several tracking numbers they kept reissuing me throughout the ordeal were valid!! Done with them as I watched it happen to another friend that bought a Kenwood TS-430 from me and soon after had a power supply misshap.

His radio need to go to a specialized shop he sent it to Burghardt Amateur and I told him not to use UNRELIABLE PACKAGE SERVICE let alone he seen and knew what I went though with them well he used them anyways and took 2 seperate insurances out on his radio and when the radio got to Burghardt I got a call because I sent it in under my name because my buddy travels for work and Jim at Burghardt was sitting infront of yet another NONREPAIRABLE carrier induced trashed radio.

2 insurances taken out on the rig and UNRELIABLE didnt honor either of the 2 insurance claims that were paid for so its only a matter of time befor you take a hit from that service from what Ive been reading online let alone there insurance companies were at the time not from the USA which finally made sense of everything. All in all Ive had great luck with US 2-3 day Priority mail that includes shipping base radios OUT OF THE COUNTRY Ive sent base radios as far as Korea with United States Postal service.

Dont get me wrong accidents or things happen but if they are taken care of and backed up its all we can ask for at that point but to get triple screwed NOT GOOD!!!
