Check out this cool Military Communications Shelter

A guy in my neighborhood used to have one of these. I went to him and asked him about Ham radio a few years back. The trailer and vehicle that pulled it are no longer around. Didn't think this was the kind of item that would end up on a Craiglist as an item. Guess I was wrong!

I saw this cool mobile military communications shelter for sale on Craigslist near Detroit. The ad says it was used for ham radio special events. Someone here should buy this thing and put it to use!

Military Communications Shelter

Man, I would beat myself to death trying to get out of that. It's kind of small and NO WINDOWS!! It would be ok I guess for someone that does not like to stretch or stand up straight.

For someone a bit larger or taller would have a problem getting in and out, + no windows... still tho, very cool! is it bullet proof?

I have closets in my house bigger than that thing...

That second one with the Direct TV hooked up had some blowers installed on it...wonder what the blowers would be for? I would have to have a AC unit on it around here...

Those old Rat Rigs are made out of Aluminum Honey Comb Panels, definately not bullet proof. That looks like one that would be mounted on the old CUCV Pickup Trucks, they really didnt mount them in trailers. The Bigger square ones were alot nicer but needed a big truck to move them or trailer wheels that were mounted to the front and back with hydraulics. Man I have been in way too long I remember when those were top of the line new rigs .. 73 days and a wake up !!!

I remember those days of counting down.

Radio Communications Shelter with Trailer

Check out the link.

They convert into EMCOMM shacks nicely.

The design is meant to integrate onto military trailers, or onto the back of an M35A2.

By the dimensions on the label, it would fit on a CUCV pretty nice, 48 7/8 inch wide at the bottom would fit most full size pickup boxes, you wouldn't need a deuce and a half for it to fit

The trailer in the link is incomplete and woefully inadequate. It is missing the most important antenna of all...............a Booty 4. :D

The booty 4 is there, it is a stealth booty 4 that is why you can not see it in the picture.

Hahahaha There were no such ting way back when that thing came out .. That aluminum Honeycomb Box couldnt stop a good pellet gun..

Actually if it was well bonded to ground it would go a long way for EMP proofing the gear inside as long as feedlines were protected. Think Faraday Cage. I had an AM broadcast site that had the walls, ceiling, and floor covered with 1/4 hardware cloth screening. it was a dead zone inside for any form of RF. Cell phones died the minute you walked inside and closed the door yet had a beautiful full scale signal while standing in the doorway. Even 2m HT's had a poor time communicating outside when the door was closed.

I saw one of those a few weeks ago at a cell site. Owner likely abandon it so I might could contact the site tech and offer to remove it free of charge or I might not. I was thinking more of camper, it was dry as a bone inside and had to have been unused for a decade or so, only complaint was it was just a few inches too short to lay down inside, but with some engineering I am sure I could make an extension to make footroom.
