Yesterday on Hwy 50 here in California. The Chp was in a high speed chase. Nohing new, but as a chp officer was laying down spike stips up the road. The man they were chasing swerved into and hit the officer. The officer later died.

As a driver I know it's a cat and mouse game. Always on the lookout for them. Pullover that 4wheeler but leave me alone.I'm just trying to make a buck and pay the bills. I have to be out here. So do they to pay the bills and to keep my ass safe. I wish them no harm. If they asked for help I would.

The peace of sh!t was cought. What is wrong with people?

What's wrong with people ? .......Parents and there up bringings at times , Socieity , drugs and alcohol , no love , no spiritualality, no sence of authority , the media , the cost of living , the weather , a nagging wife or husband , kids gone wild , no self control ,a care less boss , your asshole next door neighbor ect. ect. ect. .......Some 75 million Americans are on some kind of Anti-depressents !! Think about that for a minute, that's almost 1/3 of our nation !! That's almost scary in one thought ! but it could also be a blessing for many. ..........What's wrong people ? your guess is as good as mine. :?

First off, let me say that I agree with VNSDeacon and everyone else's post. However, there are some circumstances surrounding this that we just don't know.

Why was the guy running from CHP? Who knows, the story doesn't say. It does say that he is a registered drug offender and had a misdemeanor warrant for resisting arrest. I'm speculating here, but this sounds like a 3 strike incident to me.

For those that don't know, in CA we have a 3 strike law: On your 3rd conviction of a felony, for a crime you go away for life. This law has led to many of these types of "running" cases for fairly trivial reasons, i.e...someone shoplifted something small and took off when pursued because they knew it would be their 3rd strike. Whenever this happens, innocent people get hurt. IMO, this law has some serious side effects that need the legislature to take a long, hard look at. Obviously the root of the problem is the criminal, but we gotta figure out something better than this. Again, I'm purely speculating about this particular incident, but it certainly sounds familiar. In this case, the guy is going away for life now for sure for killing a cop.

Still doesn't answer the question about what the hell is wrong with some people?

YEAP ! Stupid has to be willing to get help for his or her own stupidity. (No different from a alcoholic and a drug addict) Mole's right about the 3 strikes and your out law here in California as well , it really should me modified to a degree , I remember when this law first went into effect many years ago , a homeless dude got 20 years to life for stealing a slice of pizza for be hungry !! True Story !!
