does anyone know how to unlock the clarifier on a galaxy dx2547. i can adjust incoming frequencys for USB and LSB but when ever i go to transmit it goes back to the regular frequency for whatever band im using. and is there any point of me buying a power mic because a guy i talked to said i was a little bit quiet and i had my mic gain maxed out and my rf power maxed out. but otherwise I really really like my new radio. it was peaked and tuned by clays radio shop.com it sounds great.

your radio is tuned , and yes a power mic will help you , or even try talking a little louder accross the mic up at your mouth , Yuor radio sounds OK to me , if you want the clar opened ,I would highly suggest you let Clay's (where the radio was tuned) take care of that for you . There's a little bit of precise work that is involved for that.

everything you need to know and then some

If they did the radio right, they would have opened it for you. Apower mike would be good for base work but, if it will be mobile I would go with a noise canceling mike. I assume you are using a stock mike.

" If they did the radio right, they would have opened it for you "

Actually that would be a matter of opinion of the owner of the radio. For example, I would not want a 2950 opened up, nor would I want that done to a radio that has a dual clarifier control. I had a Uniden Grant xl that was also not opened up and it worked great, it was always dead on frequency. Most shops will not just always do this unless you request it.

honestly most the people i have been talking to say they can all hear me just fine, and i called clays and they said that there really is no need to have it opened. So i not going to really fuss about it the radio works flawlessly. without skip i can talk a good 15 to 20 miles with my a99

I'd say you were good to go about now Big red , you have a really nice set up now , you will be able to talk a lot farther on SSB as well (-: That's a decent radio and antenna to go with it. In the future you might conceder getting a D-104 desk mic for the radio , or some kind of decent desk mic for it . Usually guys in the Swap shop have them out there for more then fair prices , you might think about that for the future. Have fun and enjoy your new stuff . Happy New Year !!

which is it? unfortunately you have mentioned none of the necessary parameters (and possibly not measured any of them)
that would provide any indication of just exactly how well it is performing. you can forget the link to the alignment procedure, no one at clays has ever read it much less seen it and if you compare it with the file on cbtricks site you can see it has been re-written. (not original) hhmmmm....

i'm assuming that the S/N on your 2547 is somewhat higher than
T1T01601 as you haven't mentioned any of the problems associated with earlier builds of this chassis.

typical power output from the 2547 with a proper alignment is 6.5 - 7.0W carrier and 26 - 28W PEP on am and 30 - 35W PEP on ssb while still maintaining reasonably suppressed spurious emission levels. while you may think that it sounds great, comments such as "it was a little bit quiet" is a sure indication that peak-to-carrier levels on am are somewhat less than 4:1 meaning that modulation percentage is somewhat less than 95 - 100%, just FYI.

as to your original question, unlocking the clarifier to track in tranmsit mode is a rather simple operation while expansion may make the clarifier circuit extremely sensitive to minute movements of the control but no matter, simply unlocking it usually provides enough range in both directions to compensate for all off-frequency operation except for the most severe cases.
