Can a person change a coax on a mobile antenna?
It is a cobra with cheap end on it and it moves and looses contact.
I thought about replacing the whole coax with some mini 8 I have.
Do I just peel off the foil on the antenna bottom and go from there.
Thanks

I had a cobra antenna jus tlike yours I had the same problem that coax is so flimsy it created a short. I was NEVER able to open up the antenna to replace it. I think they either glue it from the factory or its pressed somehow. nothing screws or unscrews on it to replace the coax. I wound but throwing it away and buying another wilson 5000, on the wilson I am able to change the cox no sweat.

If it's like the one I had, yes peel off the foil on the base and you can disassemble it and you'll see the terminal ends that have to be replaced, you may need to make the opening where the coax enters the antenna base a smidge larger but no problem doing it.

It can be done. You would have to get a new foil piece for the bottom. Wilson Antenna website has the instructons on how to change the coax for the Wilson 1000's. For the time and money involved you could pick up a Hustler mag mount or K30 for around 30.00. Sparky's CB shack website is selling basic Astatic mag mounts for 9.99.

I figure by now that you know it can be done, and that the hardest part will be to get things back together like they were to start with. I'm sure there are more than just one or two ways of going about that 'getting it back together' thingy, the 'best' solution being one where it works, and that you can do. I think I'd do some thinking about that "doing" part, then pick your preference. Would I do it the same way? Beats me, and as long as it works, who cares?
Good luck.
