Really it is and if you understand how antenna systems work you'd know why. In the presence of a poor RF ground the antenna system will try to use anything it can both to source electrons from and return them to, usually the coax. So if you have a length of coax that's providing sufficient source and sink and you shorten that then it'll go further down the chain trying to compensate which then means your radio as that's next in line and any wiring from the radio such as the microphone and power wires.
