Hi my name is Rick. I'm new to the site. I've been reading a lot of the posts about the 138XLR. My uncle bought this cb brand new in the 70s I got it from him in the 90s. I used it for a few years for my base station until my antena broke. Then it sat a decade in my shed. I started using it a few months ago with a 102" steel whip antena. It had a good swr at first. After using for awhile it seemed like it wasn't getting out as good so I checked the swr again and it was 3.5 on all channels. I stopped using the radio and took apart my antenna there was a white pasty corrosion film between the antenna mount, coupling , ground plane lugs for the ground plane wires and inside the coax connector. The radio is still working but it needs to be updated. Is there anyone that could recommend somebody to do this work and get the parts??
The radio has never been modes. I removed the covers and it looks like a couple of components have gotten hot don't know what they are! I'm a electrician by trade but not a electronic electrician. Any help wouls be great thank you.

Welcome to the forum sir!

No doubt some very smart radio folks will be along to help before long.
A radio of that age will definitely need to have all of the electrolytic capacitors replaced. And any of the corrosive, conductive glue used on some components back then removed. Great radio! It's good you want to keep it working.
