Cobra 142 + Digi-Scan ...

I say do it. I haven't watched the vid but it's like other digiscans it'll take ya from 26.000~28.000 straight through.

Had one back in the 80's on a President Adams mobile and it was awesome.

I wouldn't put one on there. Installing Digiscans require a bit of cutting on the PCB to install, and while having a frequency display is nice, you can have a counter put on that's easier to wire in, plus it maintains more of the original look and functionality of the radio. The Cobra 142's have a channel spread of 26.175-28.085, so the coverage between them both is pretty close.

If you have some tech experience and some good soldering skills, you'd be fine installing it, but personally, I think it's better to retain a little more of the stock look and functionality of the radio VS. having a clunky Digiscan on it that has to be there all the time. Just my .02 worth!. :)

~Cheers~

Thanks ALL for your input, Nay's included.

My mind was pretty well made up before the post. I just wanted to find out from people with experience any pro's and cons.

No PCB cutting is required with this unit. The earlier units required such cutting. This one replaces the function of the MB8719 PLL. Remove PLL and hook-up a couple of wires.

I intended to hook-up an outboard frequency counter to the 142 in one way or another. So whether Digi-Scan or frequency counter, there was going to be a box on top.

This YouTube video shows one in action. ***WARNING*** the audio you are about to hear may be offensive to some. Highly recommend using the mute button.
