Howdy, Pawalegal here. Brand new to this site. I have also forgotten just about everything I use to know about cb radios.

I unpacked two 142 gtl radios. They have been stored since the 1970s, give, or take a year. or two. I remember using them back then, with great success, and enjoyment.

One works, and the other has a broken as/dc switch. It just moves back, and fourth freely.

The one that does work has a good swr reading, on the cheap car antenna I rigged up. I have heard some truck drivers talking, about 5 miles away, and used it with small hand held cb to talk to my wife at 10 miles. (wide open, line of sight)

My question besides getting a decent base antenna, what else should I be doing, assuming these critters have been out of use for 40 years?

I am located in the Mojave Desert, some 40 miles south of Las Vegas. I don't expect much cb activity out here. Just decided to hook them up.
Thanks in advance. Pawa
