cobra 148 gtl voice lock issues

you are saying the clarifier is not working? if so how are you verifying it does not work. if the clarifier is stock it only works on the receive. transmit is locked .

type in cobra 148 clarifier unlock in the search engine and you will get a lot of versions of the mod. do you just have a freq counter hooked to the coax to see your freq. you did not say how you are checking this. ROBB is one that knows what he is talking about but a 148 does not come with a freq counter unless you bought a 148F. would be nice to know how you are finding out it does not change. ROBB just assumed you have a inline freq counter which I am assuming.

If you do NOT have a real freq counter; then you shouldn't unlock the clarifier.
You will need to have it done right; or not at all - IMO . . .

Thnx, sonoma; I forgot to mention the freq counter and re-alignment!.

ROBB after I read the statement of 3 wires I knew it was going to be a problem. other parts to pull plus alignment. just watched a you tube video of a guy sent a radio in to have repairs done and solder blobs and cut traces to repair because the guy was putting the radio back to stock and had it all messed up. had even turned cans and had the receive down to almost nothing.

here is the video I mentioned. very interesting.

All is good now i followed the instructions below works great.

1 Remove D52
2 Remove R44
3 Remove R174 and solder a jumper in its place.
4 Unsolder the red wire that comes from the Voice Lock pot from the PCB and solder in to pin 1 IC4 MB3756.
5 Change R175 to a 1K

And no means to tune it with a freq counter?
