Hey all my cobra 148, when i turn it on the receives fine and after a minute or two the receives soft and distorted ?? Need help. Thanks # 15 (Worked fine until today)

There are several possibilities:

A. The wax in your ears is jolted loose when you first turn the radio on, then settles back down into its normal sound blocking position after a couple minutes, which naturally muffles and muddies the receive.

B. Someone stole your radio and left this one in its place. Find the culprit and procede to beat him with his radio while interrogating him as to the location of yours.

C. You're actually dreaming when this problem ocurrs. Follow normal dream procedure and wake yourself up by willing a cliff into existance nearby and jumping off of it into a pile of naked coeds.

D. The problem is real, but since your reality might actually be someone else's dream, it doesn't matter, so don't worry about it, and think about naked coeds instead.

E. Both the problem and reality are actually real, and you'll need to have a tech duplicate the problem on the bench to track it down.

I think he means (besides the humor), that's very hard to diagnose without physically examining the radio.

I believe the same audio amp is used for RX as well as the modulator. What does the TX audio do? The same thing? If it does then I suspect the audio amp is toast and is overheating and shutting down.

im gonna guess that its a leaky cap.

ive read many posts pertaining to a bunch of 10 volt electrolytic caps near the audio amp that cause weird problems when they go bad.
seems to be a pretty common problem now that these radios are getting some years on them.
