if you are trying to find it in your 148 style radio, its just in front of L2. (big metal can with tuning slug)

you will see TR26 (a transistor), and just in front of it, you will find R131.

Could you add an on/off switch to the resistor to turn it on or off or will the switch and wires change its value??

Im thinking if it could be done, you can turn the limiter on or off... Just a thought...

Did not make much of a difference.....these 148s are pretty lame...my Uniden pc76 made in the Philipines was a lot more formidable on am.:sad:

speaking of removing the limiter, my cousins radio sounds muffeled and get worst as he kicks on the Texas Star 667. When he gets close, it gets a lot worst as to you can make out what he is saying.

Could this be the cause? His using a stock Cobra coffin mike.

*Talking too close to the mic
*Mic gain up all of the way
*Cobra mics sound OK on SSB but crappy on AM
*Modulation pot inside the radio/on the board turned up all of the way

I think it is all the above . . . Or a combination of any two or more . . .
Changing out R131 will only make this problem WORSE. Need to give his station a radio check starting with the mic gain nearly all the way down first. Also, did he or anybody else turn up the dead key watts in the radio? That won't help either!

Until you volt the final, you wont see much.
It does nothing on SSB.
