I know all of the export radios that most of us run are not FCC approved radios. I am curious if the Cobra is? Does it have the little sticker thingy? Thanks

"NO" Export radio is leagle in the U.S. period. This inclued's the Cobra 150, and the 200.

Any radio that has more than 4w max output, is not "leagle".

But who give's a Rat's-behind!

hey jjd, isnt it just a 4w "carrier" thats legal? i think thats what i read. if thats the case i can dial mine down to 1 watt. dont know if fcc mentioned swing or not. correct me if i am wrong. ;)

Hey BIONIC_TEXAN88

on 11 meters - CB
one is allowed to use am carrier with 4 watts output (dead key)
one is also allowed to use ssb carrier with a swing to 12 watts
(however one is allowed to add a power mike and given the way SSB works it can and usally does slightly give a higher swing then the 12 watts PEP)

many radios get modified (many are very easy to)
but most these radios are not F.C.C. certified
yet countless people modify them for power and or channels

Myself i can care less if a person modifies their CB for more channels and or power..
or
whether a ham operator mods their radio to go back to 11 meters - CB

it is more importent in how one uses their equipment..
so as to not cause interference with other frequency's
and not to cause rf interference with their neighbors..

it is a nice hobby and there is room for everyone

I have read the FCC rules a time or two concerning watt's. And although it's been a while, seems like there was a limit on swing. But I may be mistaken. However, way the FCC look's at it, is if your radio is capable of higher watt's, by just flipping a swich, or turning a knob, then it's Illeagle. If it can get the 11 Meter band, and the 10 meter band, it's also Illeagle...(by FCC regulations...This is also what ebay go's by, when people try to sell something like a Galaxy 99, or the other exports)
