I read that cobra fixed the troubles they had with these and they are a talker now.
40 watts on am 128 watts on ssb, and if you have an older model without the mods cobra will fix for free, your out the postage.

Those radio's have been a disaster, a friend of mine has one that was "fixed by Cobra" and the numbers are sad. He can barely get 100 watts on SSB wide open and like 130 on AM. This is with two 2290 finals. They also say the radio is tuned correctly, if he has it touched at all the warranty is void. They also said if you turn it up any higher it will burn up again. Skip it and get a 2970, 95T,6900-150, or if you can find one a 2960.

I have sold a large number of these, and only a few have had issues. The biggest "complaint" is the extremely strong receiver, which sometimes overloads on strong signals. The cure is easy - turn the RF gain down. the only real problem I've seen, and this has been in just one, is the high power AM and SSB transmit dropping out. Cobra's eastern-US warranty facility in TN was very good about getting this repaired and back to the customer very quickly.
