Hey, I live in Oklahoma and was looking for a way to get more distance out of my Cobra 29 LTD. I've talked to a few people they said that the problem is in the cb its self... That it needs to be modded.... I've searched the internet and revealed some sites that arnt exact or I don't trust enough to open my radio and follow their guides.

Can anyone point me into the right direction? I'm not asking for exact hand holding but a general idea would be nice to get optimum distance!

-thanks

Thanks for the quick response!

Yeah i had looked into that, but is there one you suggest?

Not looking for the bottom of the line, but more for one that has good ratings!

A Palomer 225 with pre-amp is nice 250 watts out and 3-selectable power levels with a built in pre-amp you can turn on and off, very solid.

Well you can find linears in general on E-Bay, craigslist, C.B shops, online C.B Shops ect...

But you can get a new Paolomer 225 here----> Genuine Palomar 250 LINEAR Amplifier

But you got to remember pushing this much wattage means you need an antenna capable of handling such wattage.

The Cobra 29 is an excellent performing radio after receiving a simple "peak and tune" by a competent CB shop. You should see about 6 watts dead key and 25 watts swing after getting it done. Nothing is "butchered"... just tweaks to gain and power settings. You'll notice a significant increase in performance and most shops only charge about $20 to $30.

A Cobra 29 can really be pumped up with a mosfet final upgrade to 20 watts dead key and 50 watts swing... but it's not a cheap modification. I lucked into a used Cobra 29 LTD for cheap with the final mod already done and that thing is unbelievable! Best 30 bucks I've ever paid for a radio.

If you live around Tulsa, there's a well known CB shop at I-44 Exit 238 north of the ramp. They are always advertising on Ch 19 and... from what I hear... do good work.

Yes, but if you do said mod you will not be able to run a linear without the variable power mod done, or you will overdrive your amp and burn it out...
