why am i seeing this in current prodution 29`s??whats the deal?i have seen this on more than a few 29`s now .whats the purpose?is this a bandaid cobra used to fix a issue??funny how i see alot of newer 29`s with speaker problems.....fuzzy sounding, not working...ect........i just replaced a speaker in a newer 29.speaker worked fine when the case was open ,but close the case and tighten the screws and the speaker got fuzzy...hard to understand ..wtf?so i replced it with a speaker from a older 29 and sounds great now .radios can be funny sometimes.

Are you talking about that tape? I've seen that on all their new ones also. I just assumed it was to snug up the case a little and keep the vibration down.

has nothing to do with grounds that i can see, as the threads would still make contact.

im thinking its definitely to snug up the connection, thereby preventing the screws from vibrating loose.

the tape is squeezed tight, which keeps the screw tight.

my guess anyway,

your's and his guesses would be right. If you notice over the years , these covers have become paper thin tin  nothing compared to the heavy grades they used years ago . These new lids can bend with ease. Anything to save a buck I guess .

Is that the way it is now? Those screw heads just sticking out, not recessed?

how pitiful!
