i have two questions. im a newbie with CB's and i first bought a cobra 19 dx 3, and found out that it wasnt a good radio, then bought a cobra 29 wx nw st. i like it, its a good radio, but ive been looking for some shops that work on cb's and i cant find any. i live in angleton, tx. near houston. my other question is, are there any mods for this type of radio and the 19 dx 3?

There are lots of mods for the 29, not so many for the 19. There are a few different mods listed here in the Modifications section. As far as shops go, I don't know any to recommend in your area, but some others might. There are a few good ones that you can send it to if you know what you want done.

ok thanks ill look that up. like i said im a newbie, and i dont know what can be done to them if i where to send it in. but thanks for the reply

Kinds of mods:
*Super receive mod
*Swing/modulation mod
*Extra freq mod
*Powerband RFX 75 mod
*Receive/transmit frequency response mod
*Variable power output mod
*High power final/driver mod
*Frequency counter mod
*Blue channel indicator/blue meter mod

I think that is about 70% of them...

what would be the best way to get those mods?
Either send it to a reputable shop - or DIY.
I've done all of my own mods; but I am new and want to learn more. I have put in the super receive kit and the swing mod on my Cobra 29LTD. I think those are the best mods - so far. I haven't done the frequency response boost on it - but that is next - I already have the parts for it.

When I got it, it already had 80 extra channels put in it. I put a 2SC1207 final in it. Not the full 50watt or Powerband RFX75/120 watt kit. I just put in the 2SC1307 to get a few more swing watts so it would make my 100 watt linear peak out.

Personally I don't care for the most of the various RX mods that are out there, but I guess to each his own.

I also wouldn't recommend doing this stuff yourself unless you're also wanting to start purchasing test equipment.

I would recommend DTB Radio (google for his site) as a good shop. There are a few here like myself that do some stuff on the side, but if you want a full time tech to do it DTB Radio would be good.

Off hand I would say you are 2 for 2 on radio purchases, anything that says soundtracker is something to stay away from unless the deal is really really good. Thats why they got the nickname of "soundcrappers".

That said there are many great shops you can send your radio to. Here are afew of the good ones.
1) DTB Radio (forum member)
2) 8541 electronics
3) Sparkys cb
4) CBR (custom cb radio)

I could probably come up with afew more but thats a good list to start with. I would also say give everyone here a shout before you buy another radio, that way you can skip the lemons.
