Can't figure this one out ? Everything on this radio looks good and works well , other then it is 6 khz off freq and it is the best that it can get. I've even changed parts just for grinnies and I ain't grin'in yet :( Never seen anything like it , Could it possible be the 858 pll causing this ? thanks

Now maybe you can see what I was trying to say SKINNYDIPPER ......my questions been out here for 10 days and no answer or even a guess. It either can't be answered ? Somebody doesn't want to answer it ? or it could be to many different things at one time to even begin with ? or all of the above. Every tech I've known over the years had piles and piles of parts radios laying around somewhere in the shop. Catch my drift (-: It's all good in the neighborhood. Peace

hey switch calm down lol,
a guess huh
i know nothing about the 858pll, they were never popular here,
first thing i would check is are the channels stepping correctly, ie 10kc steps, if they are then that eliminates the 10.240 crystal, does that pll have a 5kc pin?
there thats a guess, now wait for some factual info

it's all good Bob :D ole Skinny got a little tight around the collar about a month back (an he's really a nice man) about trying to get some help with a certain problem he was having and the answers just didn't come :( I know how frustrating this stuff can be from time to time. IM far from a expert Bob but I surely enjoy figuring out things when I can , I've even gotten lucky just poke'in and hope'in from time to time :D This old 29 is in great conditon as well , I thought about the crystal but I just never new them to go bad ? Hmmm , I have seen older cybernet type boards with O2APLLs go strange and just change them and all was good there after , You bring up crystals , interesting. I do have extras and that surely isn't a big deal to at least give it try. It kind of reminds me of a lot (a bunch of them) of Cobra 25 LTD Classics from the early 90s ,I had seen a few of them and there wasn't much you could do with them........well , it turned out that Uniden had put what looked like 1/4 of the size crystals in them !! You know .......the 10.240s but they were only a quarter of the size of the normal crystals .......you with me so far ? It did not hurt the radios but like I said , there was very little if anything you could do to them in the tuning department (now you know most 25s of any kind will always basically tune up very nicely) not these !!! I finally ran into another one of those little baby crystal 25's (Here's where the poking and hopng came in) I took the little dude out and replaced it with the normal sized bigger one !! Walla !! The radio came alive !!! You could now tune them just like any other 25 that had came my way . How about that !! I once heard a very long time ago that FCC was going to make it harder to tune certain radios ? Now I wonder if that was there doing ? but like i said , it was only in a lot of the radios from the earily 90s , I've seen a lot of the newer ones over the years and I have yet to see that little pee wee crystal they had in those 25s at the time .......Go figure ? anyway Bob , thanks for the info , I appreciate it and I will give things a try for sure. thanks again.

Not sure if you fixed this yet or not, but I would suspect that the main reference crystal oscillator is running off-freq. Its probably either a bad crystal (most likely), or a portion of the adjustment circuit is WAAAAAYY off.

this radio has 3 total crystals , I was able to get 3 khz back changing 2 of them , so now IM only 3 khz off , I'll try and get the the third crystal replacement and see what happens ? ,much thanks for the suggestions. It might be sitting on the shelf for a while.
